Mother Nature vs. Big WhiteJuly 21, 2017 3:59 pm
Provincial restrictions on forest activity meant minimize the risk of wildfires have thrown another wrench in a Kelowna resort’s summer construction plans.
Big White Ski Resort has been racing to complete its new bike park in time for the Aug. 4 grand opening, but a series of “curveballs” from mother nature are complicating the process.
“First it was too much snow, then the snow was melting too fast and everything was too wet,” says Michael Ballingall, the senior vice president at the ski hill. “Now, it’s hot and everything is too dry and we have to stop work at 1 p.m.”
“Mother Nature has an incredible sense of humour this summer, but our build team is made up of mountain bikers and they will get it ready even with hand shovels,” he added.
